Full-size tests of volume and position on the site

I should emphasize my strong belief that an attempt to define this house volume on drawings, or by drawing, would have failed. The complex three-dimensional reality of site, house volume, space, slope, just could not have been visualized from a drawing. It was the little blocks of balsa wood themselves, and the arrangements they made on the sloping clay, that led to the volume.
